About Me

Jamell Crouthers is a poet, author, blogger and podcaster who has taken on a journey of writing in the prime of his life. He has been writing poetry since the age of 13 but never thought he could utilize his talent to tell stories and write books. He is not the traditional author as he writes his books in poetry format with a focus on storylines and societal issues.

After publishing 14 books, his goals and plans are to continue writing books on taboo subjects that aren't discussed enough in today's world and bringing those main subjects to the forefront. Jamell's blogs tackle societal issues, how he writes his books, his journey as an author and some motivational blogs that will get you to focus on your goals. His goal and moniker is, "to change the world, one book at a time."

Code Blue: An Oath to the Badge and Gun Series

The Code Blue Series somehow became something bigger than me. The best way to describe it is looking at the world now and what’s going on, ...

UNDERSTANDING and knowing yourself and who you are is so crucial in your journey. How you think, process, and go about every aspect of your life will come to fruition. If you know you get in funks and start thinking negatively, UNDERSTAND that you have to get out of that quickly. You can bring yourself down even more if you don't process in your mind that you will succeed in whatever you're passionate about.

Take the time to think about your life and how much you truly know yourself. Do you UNDERSTAND your thoughts, why you think the way you do? Do you UNDERSTAND what causes you to get in a negative mindset? Is it because you're not seeing the results you would like? Is it because you see others getting ahead of you in your life? Do you think that you should be where you should be now so you can celebrate the fruits of your labor? This is the process of fully UNDERSTANDING yourself.

The next thing that I want you to think about when UNDERSTANDING yourself is what motivates you everyday? Do you need someone or something to motivate you? Are you naturally motivated to do great things? Is it a combination of both? This is part of your character and who you are and what's in your DNA.

Once you UNDERSTAND yourself and who you are, your journey becomes easier and endless.

Be good everyone and go accomplish your goals!

Being an entrepreneur or doing something big will always require you to have a good TEAM around you. Some of us are going at this alone (which is me) and for many reasons but it doesn't mean I don't have a good TEAM around me. My TEAM consists of those supporting me, my vision and what I'm trying to accomplish.

I was having a conversation with a good friend a last year and when I told him that I do everything alone (write books, edit my books, format my books, make book covers, publish my book, market and promote my books, social media engagement, record podcasts, record audiobooks, record YouTube videos, write these blogs, write screenplays) and he asked me how I do it, I told him it's the drive and knowing my own vision.

He told me that it takes a great TEAM to accomplish a lot. That's very true and it's hard to have the right people around me. I make sure that everything falls on me, every decision, every success and every downfall. The journey is lonely as Gary Vaynerchuk says and it's so true. The good TEAM I have around me are my supporters (my closest friends) which makes a huge difference. They have been nothing but supportive in my writing, my journey and my vision and that same friend and his wife bought one of my books and I was just so thankful.

Make sure you have the right people around you who are going to push you to be great. This requires paying attention to how people move, how people talk, how they support you, what their intentions are. Being observant, listening with your ears, with your eyes and with your gut. When you feel something or someone isn't right, you have to remove them out of your circle.

The right TEAM is what matters, don't ever think that this doesn't matter. I'm thankful for the few people who care enough to want to see me succeed and I want the same for them. So take the time to see who's really there for you, who is really on your TEAM. Understand and know that the smaller your TEAM is, the better off you'll be.

If you're starting a company, have a TEAM that you can trust. We will all have a point in time where we don't even realize someone is jealous or envious of our success. Or there is someone that we can't fully trust and every entrepreneur has gone through it. Randall Pich the CEO of Live Fit said that the people that were closest to him that he trusted and hired into his company were stealing apparel from him and he caught them on camera. This is after he hired them full-time, gave them medical and dental benefits, a 401k and they still wanted more.

Figure out what works for you, if you want to go at it alone, be prepared for everything to fall on you. If you hire a TEAM, make sure you have the right people you can trust.

Be good everyone and go accomplish your goals!

There are no overnight successes, sorry to bust your bubble. Everything takes TIME. Along with patience, energy, effort, drive, dedication and so many other words. There's no getting around it. I wish I could tell you I published my first book and boom, there I was successful as hell. But I'm not, I'm 16 books into this thing and still nothing. I've tried so many different things, invested so much money into this and still nothing yet.

I'm entrenched in a world where there are millions of books on different bookstore platforms. Do my books standout? Yes they do, they're written in poetry prose format, with the focus on societal issues in the world that are character driven (literary fiction) and they have a journalistic feel to them where it's telling you a story about a specific person. You would think, wow that is different and that is an interest concept to how I write my books, but that's not necessarily the case.

My podcast have did well in 2018 on two platforms, if I would've been on the four platforms I'm on now, things may be totally different so I shot myself in my own foot. For me, I've done the patience things when it comes to my books, but the reality is, I have to do even more to standout from the pack and I figured out a few things. I have to humanize myself on social media a little bit and show behind the scenes things in my life. How I write, what I do when I'm writing and a few other things that most writers aren't doing on their end.

It's not easy to be patient when you've done so much work, put in so many hours and you're still not seeing the results you want. I'm already 3 1/2 years into my writing journey so imagine how many other people have been doing what they love for way more years and still haven't seen results yet. Trust me, I question if I'm cut out for this on a regular basis but then when I think of another book idea, script concept, blog post, podcast idea, then I'm thinking to myself, gotta do this work!

TIME can be our best friend and our worst enemy because you don't know how your life is going to go from day to day. If I died tomorrow, there would be so much content you wouldn't get to read, listen to or see that's how much I have stashed and ready to go. That's how I know my TIME is coming and when people finally realize all of the work I've done, they'll be playing catch up.

When I shared my podcast with my supervisor at my job, he wanted to catch up on all of the content I posted. He was 49 episodes behind though at an average of 10-12 minutes a podcast so imagine how much time he had to spend catching up. That's why I do it, we have discussions on the world and what's going on and it's insightful to hear his perspective.

So when I tell you everything takes TIME, I truly mean it, so keep doing the work and finding ways to get others to see how you can impact them. Remember there are very few people who will understand your goals and reason for doing what you are doing. Don't let negativity and self-doubt keep you from doing what you're great at!

Be good everyone and go accomplish your goals!

The four Ss is something that I thought about not too long ago and it fits perfectly into anything regarding your life journey. Being SMART in what you do, doing things with your SOUL, striving for SUCCESS and making SACRIFICES to get there. I'll go in depth with each worth and how it impacts you and your journey.

Knowing who you are and what you're good at, you eventually figure out what you love. Being SMART and knowing your strengths is what matters the most. Your weaknesses are something you should know but not define yourself with.

Putting your SOUL into what you love is what matters the most. You will never feel fulfilled in life unless you're doing something that sets your SOUL on fire. Everyday, if you wake up and feel empowered to go do what you love, then your life is where it should be and has to be.

Focusing on your SUCCESS is what your goal should be, don't let anything else hinder you from that. Nothing should keep you from doing what you want in your life. Living your purpose and living for yourself is what your life should be about. If people don't understand, then that's on them, no one else.

Making SACRIFICES is what has to be done in order to get to the end results and ultimate goal. If you're not willing to make SACRIFICES such as hangin' out with friends, family, missing important family events, and other things, it's going to be hard to get to where you want to be.

The four Ss is not easy to do, you may figure out 2 our of 4 or 3 out of 4 but in my opinion and through this journey I've been one, you need to have all four to achieve anything you want. It's very hard and I had to learn myself that I needed all four to accomplish my goals. My goals are endless because like I've said in previous blogs, this is about longevity and legacy for me.

Whatever your purpose is for doing what you love, stick to that. Don't let anyone change your vision or deter it in anyway. You are built for this, just know that.

Be good everyone and go accomplish your goals!
