About Me

Jamell Crouthers is a poet, author, blogger and podcaster who has taken on a journey of writing in the prime of his life. He has been writing poetry since the age of 13 but never thought he could utilize his talent to tell stories and write books. He is not the traditional author as he writes his books in poetry format with a focus on storylines and societal issues.

After publishing 14 books, his goals and plans are to continue writing books on taboo subjects that aren't discussed enough in today's world and bringing those main subjects to the forefront. Jamell's blogs tackle societal issues, how he writes his books, his journey as an author and some motivational blogs that will get you to focus on your goals. His goal and moniker is, "to change the world, one book at a time."

Code Blue: An Oath to the Badge and Gun Series

The Code Blue Series somehow became something bigger than me. The best way to describe it is looking at the world now and what’s going on, ...

I don't fall for the work and get no sleep ordeal, that'll never happen in my lifetime. For people who made it and grinded through not getting any sleep, great, more power to you. Like I've said in a previous blog post, I won't ever work 18 hours a day, I tend to plan my days through knowing certain tasks will be worked on and others will be worked on another day.

It's different for me because I'm an entrepreneur but then I'm not in some ways. CEOs of companies, most of them have to work long days. For me, I can work on certain projects a few hours a day and then spend my time thinking and observing the world to get new ideas. I definitely need sleep to succeed and do well in what I do.

When I get sleep, I write better (which is why I don't write much when I don't get enough sleep). In all honesty, my books are written on a good eight hours of sleep bare minimum. My mental focus is there and my content is valuable when I get a good amount of sleep.

The reality is, you have to do what works for you. Don't feel pressured to be awake until all hours of the night if it's not going to benefit you in the long run. A clear mind and eating right will definitely help you to stay fresh and have a good perspective on what needs to be done.

I know a lot of motivational videos say you have to be up until 3 and 4am some nights to get stuff done. I'll be brutally honest with you, I've stayed awake until 3 and 4am maybe 4-5 times in the 2 years I've been consistently writing books, posting poetry and doing other things.

For me, it's about working smarter and not harder. I work on certain things one day and do other tasks another day. I pace myself and think of the longevity of the process. I'm willing to write great content and not feel pressured or flustered. Doing things at your own pace is what will help you in the long run.

I've published 8 books up to this point and very rarely will I stay up until crazy hours of the night. My limit is 2am on the weekends and during the weekdays it'll be 1am the latest but that's because I get home from work at 10pm and by the time I shower and eat, it's 11pm so I put in an hour and a half to two hours doing smaller tasks.

So if you need sleep to succeed, please do it. You don't want to overwork yourself to the point where you'll achieve the results you wanted but can't enjoy it somewhat because your health isn't up to par. Eating healthy, sleeping right and exercise will always be beneficial in the long run.
