About Me

Jamell Crouthers is a poet, author, blogger and podcaster who has taken on a journey of writing in the prime of his life. He has been writing poetry since the age of 13 but never thought he could utilize his talent to tell stories and write books. He is not the traditional author as he writes his books in poetry format with a focus on storylines and societal issues.

After publishing 11 books, his goals and plans are to continue writing books on taboo subjects that aren't discussed enough in today's world and bringing those main subjects to the forefront. Jamell's blogs tackle societal issues, how he writes his books, his journey as an author and some motivational blogs that will get you to focus on your goals. His goal and moniker is, "to change the world, one book at a time."

The title of this blog is pretty self-explanatory and it's a question I get asked a lot these days. So, here's my thoughts on being asked this question daily. To be honest, after my first book was published it was kind of surreal. It really didn't hit me until I typed in my full name on Amazon and my book came up. In my head I was thinking, "wow you really just published your first book." So let's just say it took a while for it to sink in.

My second book, when I published it and I went to type in my name on Amazon, once I typed in my first name, my last name would fill-in, that's when reality set in. My writing is displayed for the whole world to see and read. Now, I'm on my third book and I'm fine with it, it's more about getting my stories out to the masses.

People constantly would tell me, you should celebrate, it's a huge accomplishment. In my mind, I'm thinking of the next project I need to be working on. That's the creativity and mindset and how I'm thinking. I've accomplished so much in my life from college graduation to working for some of the biggest companies in the world and it was celebrate, be happy, feel accomplished but with my writing, I'm not fulfilled. My sense of fulfillment will be when millions of people are reading my books and realizing how many societal issues we have and don't speak about enough.

Does it feel good to be a published author? Of course it does, it's one of my biggest accomplishments in my life. To me, there's always more to write, more stories to share, more people to meet and talk to about not only my books, but the societal issues we face on a daily basis.

I guess the Aquarian in me won't let myself get too high, nor will I get too low about this process and how long it takes to get noticed. My books are different, it's not the traditional read, I don't spend tons of money on fancy book covers and writing extravagant synopsis for my books. My books are written in poetry format so it probably turns people off from reading it. But the goal is to allow readers to get insight into my books and give them the opportunity to get inside of my mind.

This is the start of a few blogs coming about being a writer/author, the process, how I write, what I've learned about writing and being an author and also how to be a good writer. I will say this, it's not easy at all, it takes time, dedication, patience, energy, consistency and effort. I've made some mistakes along the way and I will state those in future blogs.

I'm still a work in progress with being an author, it's a whole different business and realm. So I'm learning along the way, trying new things and as time goes on I'll figure out what works and what doesn't.

Be good everyone and follow your dreams.
