My Books Aren't For Everyone

The inevitable was going to happen...I got my first bad review of one of my books...the book...America Under Mind Control. Is it bothering me? Nope. Do you want to know why? Because there's way too many catastrophic events going on in this world to be griping about one bad review.

The reality is, my books aren't for everyone. I won't post the review on here because for one, it'll drive attention to the reviewer and that's surely not my goal. Secondly, it'll make me look like someone who's petty and mad and the reality is, I'm not and I don't care that much.

The reason why I'm writing this is because a lot of people who write don't know how to handle and deal with criticism and bad reviews. For me, it doesn't bother me because I've dealt with plenty of criticisms in my life about who I am and many others things. At the end of the day, we're all growing, human beings trying to better ourselves (or so I hope).

America Under Mind Control was written to get people to think about what's going on in America today. The reviewer said I need to do research and I was paranoid about too many things. To me, research isn't necessary on subject matter that's right in front of our faces. Things that are being done intentionally to try and keep us under control from the decisions we make to the food we eat to the things we buy.

This is the only book so far that when people read it, they're not going to agree with plenty of things I say. That's why I wrote it, to bring more discussion to what's going on in the world today. I'm trying to change the world one book at a time and the more readers that read it, the better it is to have an open forum on the subject matter that I wrote about.

I tackled a lot of topics and if you don't get it, that's perfectly fine. It's a lot to take in all at once and I've already learned that not everyone is going to like my books. For one, I write my books in poetry format and it's about societal issues. So going in, it's not the traditional book and secondly, you don't know what to expect. I like knowing that when a reader gets their hands on my book.

So to all of the writers, authors, bloggers and creators, keep writing. Chicken Soup for the Soul and the Harry Potter series didn't take off right away and those are some of the best selling books of all-time. My goal isn't bestseller status and getting accolades, I do this because I love it, it's my passion and I feel I'm blessed with a talent to impact others.

I want people to feel, emote and express themselves and that one reviewer did that. I could respond on Goodreads where the review is posted but there's no need to. You're not going to be liked by everyone and your talents and abilities aren't going to resonate with everyone.

I love the grind, and I loved getting that review. It only motivates me more and keeps me going. I've dealt with enough rejections in my life from not getting into the high school I wanted, the college I wanted, jobs not hiring me, not making it as a sports broadcaster and many other things. I guess that's what keeps me humble in this whole process. I never get too high and I never get too low, I'm always even and level-headed. I try to stay in the moment and keep striving for greatness.

No matter how far I go in this, I will always be thankful for the readers and the fans that I do have so far. So keep going everyone, life is a journey we must embrace.

Be good and go accomplish those goals!
